A course for beginners with very limited or no prior knowledge of the Cyrillic alphabet. It gives non-Bulgarian speaking students some basic knowledge of Bulgarian language and culture. Emphasis is put on everyday situations, and interactive language teaching methods are used. Vocabulary is carefully chosen on the principle of practicality, and grammar is limited to major structures for comprehension and production. Not open to students who speak a South Slavic language (e.g. Macedonian, Serbian) or an East Slavic language (Russian, Belarusian, or Ukrainian).
