Disinformation, Misinformation and Propaganda

Do you feel overwhelmed by the amount of content you see on a daily basis? Are you unsure what to believe when it comes to current events? This guide breaks it down.

Misinformation

According to the American Psychological Association, "Misinformation is false or inaccurate information — getting the facts wrong."

The main difference between misinformation versus disinformation is that even though the facts are wrong, misinformation is not being spread deliberately to support a certain agenda. However, the outcome can be the same in that many individuals will make important life decisions based on inaccurate information that can have negative real-world consequences. It often spreads from not taking the time to vet sources and facts.

Please see the video below from TED-Ed, which delves deeper into misinformation and how it spreads.
