HTY305 Early Slav History and Culture: Background information

What is background information

Finding background information is an essential step of the research process that will help you in:

Knowing what is generally known about your topic;

Putting your topic into percpective;

Identifying keywords;

Identifying additional sources that are included in bibliographies and footnotes.

The background sources are also called reference sources. Examples of reference sources are: encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, yearbooks, atlases etc.

Print background sources

Search the Panitza Library catalog to find reference sources - either general or related to a topic. You can set Session Filters to search spesifically for Reference sources.

The Reference Collection (3000 titles) is situated on the Ground floor of the library. The books can be recognized by having Ref in front of their Call Numbers.
